ALEX Lynn was unable to turn a strong start to weekend into a points haul during GP2’s visit to Russia.

The DAMS driver, who has recently moved to Oxford, qualified in pole position with a lap of 2mins 1.840secs at the Sochi circuit.

Lynn, 22, got away from the line well and took charge of the race, but went off and had to retire on lap ten of the feature race.

He was able to see the chequered flag in the sprint race, finishing in tenth place.

Lynn climbed to fifth in the standings, ahead of the next round in Bahrain on November 19-21.

  • A COLLISION on the opening lap ended Sean Walkinshaw’s debut season in the Blancpain Sprint Series at Zandvoort.

The Chipping Norton driver’s Nissan GT-R was shunted off and eventually retired 22 minutes into the race.
