BELOW-PAR Oxford City crashed out of the Emirates FA Cup with a disappointing 4-2 defeat to lower-league Bognor Regis Town.

City led twice in the first half of the third qualifying round tie, thanks to a Grant Smith own goal and Jose Lapoujade’s header, but were unable to hang on.

Jason Prior had levelled from the penalty spot, before Alex Parsons’ quickfire double after the break put the Ryman League side in front and a fourth from Prior killed off City’s campaign.

There was little hint of the upset to come in the early stages.

City took the lead in the 13th minute when Bradley Bubb’s cross was fumbled into his own net by goalkeeper Smith, who had earlier that day been involved in a car accident.

However, City were pegged back after 40 minutes when goalkeeper Laurie Walker spilled a cross into the path of Doug Tuck, who was then tripped by Alejandro-Adrian Santiago.

Walker got his hand to Prior’s spot-kick, but the strike was too powerful.

City restored their lead on the stroke of half-time, Lapoujade heading home a free-kick at the back post.

But the second half belonged to the hosts.

Ollie Pearce’s header was cleared off the line by Jon Arzamendi, while James Crane had a goal disallowed for offside.

But the equaliser finally came in the 72nd minute when substitute Parsons slotted home.

And just three minutes later, Parsons was allowed to advance unchallenged and fire into the bottom corner.

That forced City onto the front foot, but also left them vulnerable in defence.

Prior put the final nail in the coffin six minutes from time, calmly rolling the ball home.
