CHIPPING Norton driver Sean Walkinshaw returns to the country of his birth next weekend when the Blancpain Sprint Series makes its annual visit to Zolder, Belgium.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Brussels, and teammate Craig Dolby will be aiming to build on the rostrum result they enjoyed in the second round at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit earlier this month.

The MRS GT-Racing driver heads to Belgium off the back of an excellent fifth-place finish last weekend in the sister Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone.

Walkinshaw, along with Dolby and Endurance Series teammate Martin Plowman, combined over the course of the three-hour contest to storm up from 22nd on the grid.

  • EYNSHAM’S Dave Messenger finished second in the latest round of the Alfa Romeo Twin Spark Cup at Oulton Park, Cheshire.

Messenger led for the early laps, before he was passed by 2009 champion Paul Plant.

The result leaves him only three points behind championship leader James Bishop.

Messenger will be looking to add to his tally at Snetterton, Norfolk, on June 27-28.

Standings (top eight): 1 J Bishop 84, 2 D Messenger 81, 3 T Hill 71, 4 A Hancock 61, 5 P Plant 48, 6 S Cresswell 38, 7= J Billingsley, S Potts 28.
