London Welsh may have lost all 20 games this term, but the thought of going all season without a single win is not playing on the squad’s minds, according to assistant coach Matthew Ferguson, writes SIMON WILLIAMS.

Welsh have yet to register a victory in any league or cup game and are rooted to the bottom of the Aviva Premiership table.
But Ferguson said coaches and players are confident they can end their losing run – and sooner, rather than later.

“It is not playing on players’ minds,” he said.
“We are still looking for that elusive first win, but the hunger for a victory, going back to September, is still the same.”
But Ferguson stressed: “There is a difference between desperate and desperation.”

He added: “The win will come and then we will be desperate to get the second win, as we are professional athletes in sport.”
Welsh will be playing a European Challenge Cup game for the second consecutive week tomorrow, when they face Lyon at home.
They lost 26-3 against Bordeaux Begles last week, with Ferguson saying Welsh had again been guilty of missing chances.

“There is an inability at the moment to score under pressure,” he added.
“We would always be more concerned as coaches at not having created those opportunities, but it is more frustrating.
“We do believe that we will create the chances.”
Welsh have lost all five games to date in the European Challenge Cup and tomorrow’s game against Lyon will be their last, whatever the result.
However, Ferguson said the Exiles could take positives from their involvement in Europe.
He said: “They are five games that we have lost, but we have had longer periods of success (during games) in Europe.
“Lyon have a huge pack of forwards. They also have a great ability to offload and play.
“It is the best chance to win all season because it is the next game.”
