Paul Brant struck early to win Littlemore AS’s Christmas Shield fished by 14 on the River Thames at Sandford.

Brant had two quick chub on bread for a winning weight of 6lb 14oz.

The river was carrying an extra six inches of water and the fish were reluctant to feed.

Runner-up Gerald Perks had a small chub on the bomb with worm for 1.5.0. Brian Hutchings winkled out 20 small gudgeon on the pole with pinkie for third place with just 0.9.0.

It was the same story in Kidlington AS’s Christmas match, which was switched from the Cherwell to Oxford canal.

Frost made the fishing very difficult for the ten anglers taking part.

Ron Hillier won with 0.9.0 – a daddy ruff, six perch and a roach, caught on the pole with pinkie.

Jamie Barrett was second with 0.7.0 of roach and perch, using bread on the pole.

One angler to hit double figures was Stephen Malone who won Tackley Sports’s match on the Three Pigeons stretch on Oxford Canal, where ten fished.

Malone caught perch, roach and dace on pole, worm and maggot for a winning weight of 10.3.0.

Frank Malone was second with 7.6.0 and Geoff Broom third with 5.12.0.
