Didcot Town joint manager Ian Concannon wants to emulate Forest Green Rovers as his side resume their promotion push in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West tomorrow at home to Bridgwater Town, writes Matthew Bruce.

The Railwaymen were beaten 3-0 at home to the Vanarama Conference side in their FA Trophy first round replay on Tuesday, but Concannon believes Didcot can use the Gloucestershire club’s progress as incentive.

“Twenty years ago, they were in the Hellenic League and they’ve gone on and been promoted up to the level they’re at now,” he said.

“I think we can learn a lot from them, both on and off the pitch, because they are what we should aspire to be.”

And Concannon is confident a first defeat in 13 games won’t damage his side’s promotion chances this season.

He added: “From the very first stages of our pre-season campaign we were clear that the league was our priority.

“It’s always nice to have a cup run because of the publicity it brings and the financial rewards on offer, but the league is how we will ultimately be judged at the end of the season.

“Our league form has been very good and it’s important we keep it going.”

Didcot have a full squad to choose from, although midfielder Matt Clark could be rested after being substituted at half-time last Saturday due to injury.

TOMORROW’S SQUAD

Didcot Tn (v Bridgwater Tn, home): from Foster, Elkins, Carnell, Learoyd, Organ, McKirnan, Self, Ballard, Haysham, Longford, Mills, Bernasconi, Heapy, Williams, Clark, Dutton-Black, Brooks, Woodley.
