Sarah Rendell produced a personal best performance to take victory at the Bupa Great South Run 5K in Portsmouth on Saturday.

Rendell (Alchester) was the first lady home and 17th overall in a time of 18mins 30secs.

The vet 40 athlete finished 1min 21secs ahead of runner-up Gemma Bigg, with fellow Basingstoke runner Gemma Wildash (20.35) third.

Alchester’s Paul Swanton was the first Oxfordshire club runner home, finishing 70th in 58.45.

Meanwhile, Alchester’s Jon Bur-gess won the vet 60 silver medal at the Venice Marathon.

Burgess clocked 3hrs 10mins 44secs for the runner-up spot, went 12th in the 2014 UK rankings and also broke Alchester’s vet 60 club record by more than 49 minutes.

l HOST club Alchester won the team prize at the ladies only Candleford Canter 10K.

Claire Court led them home in 45mins exactly, with Sarah Cox (45.52) and Olivia Underhill (47.12) completing their team.
