Oxford Harlequins Under 12s missed out on the chance of walking out at Twickenham by the narrowest of margins after suffering an agonising defeat in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

Harlequins lost out by one try to Blackheath in the tournament qualifying final, hosted by Wasps at Farnham RFC, for a spot in the ‘Parade of Champions’ during half-time of the Aviva Premiership grand final.

Oxford RFC reached the plate competition final before losing to Reading Abbey by one try.

At under 11, Oxford Harlequins Lightning reached the vase final before losing out to High Wycombe Rebels, while Oxford Harlequins Thunder lifted the bowl trophy thanks to a one-try win over Haywards Heath.

WITNEY Under 14s are looking for new members as they seek to build on last season’s successful campaign.

The team, who are now sponsored by Witney’s Shaan restaurant, won last year’s Oxfordshire Under 13 Plate.

ABINGDON RFC became the first Oxfordshire set-up to enjoy a club day at a London Welsh home game this season, when the Exiles took on Gloucester at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium last Friday.

Abingdon’s youngsters provided the fly-waving guard of honour to greet the teams and acted as boy balls for the Aviva Premiership fixture, which Gloucester won 46-10.

Abingdon also put on a half-time tag rugby display, while Welsh held a juniors’ coaching session at the club.
