Ardley United had keeper Jack Harding sent off as they went down to a 4-2 defeat at Flackwell Heath in the Uhlsport Hellenic League on Tuesday.

It followed their 1-0 FA Cup exit at Southern League side Chippenham Town on Saturday.

Kevin Brock’s side had fought back to lead 2-1 at Flackwell, but it went wrong following the second-half dismissal of Harding.

Early on, Luke Ingram hit a post, before being twice denied by Robert Bullivant in the home goal.

Flackwell took the lead on 24 minutes when Jamie Hanscombe’s shot into the top corner.

But it was soon all-square when Ricky Johnson latched on to Ingram’s pass before firing home his sixth goal of the season at the second attempt after Bullivant parried his first effort.

Ardley took the lead on the hour. Johnson’s flick-on found Ingram who shot into the far corner.

The visitors were reduced to ten men when Harding was red-carded for bringing down Jeff Brown, with Bryan Taylor putting the resulting spot-kick past Harding’s replacement midfielder Danny Bone to level.

The hosts restored their lead on 76 minutes through Gavin James, with Hanscombe scoring his second to seal victory on 85 minutes to consign Ardley to their third defeat in a row.

In Saturday’s second-qualifying round tie, Ardley went out in heartbreaking fashion as Chippenham grabbed a late winner.

Just when it looked like Ardley, for whom Callum Convey had a penalty saved, may have done enough for a replay, Chippenham snatched victory in the 89th minute.

A quickly taken free-kick on the halfway line was played through to substitute Omar Simpson, who raced through to score. Chippenham had dominated with Michael Pook and Jordan Roberts, twice, wasting their best opportunities in the first half.

Poor finishing and great goalkeeping from Harding prevented the hosts from scoring after the break.

Against the run of play, Ardley almost took the lead in the 63rd minute when they had the ball cleared off the line.

A minute later, substitute Jon Gardner was brought down, but Kent Kauppinen saved Convey’s spot-kick.

Luke Ingram and Danny Bone went close for the visitors, before Simpson broke Ardley’s hearts.

This weekend, Ardley host Thatcham Town in the league.
