Twyford trainer Tim Jarvis saddled Always Resolute to spring a 50-1 shock at Haydock.
Sent off the rank outsider in a field of 11 runners, the three-year-old stormed clear under Martin Lane to slam Qibtee by three and a half lengths in a handicap over an extended mile and a quarter.
Reflecting on the success, Jarvis said that he had given his string a two-week break after a number of his horses had run poorly.
