MICHAEL Appleton hopes Oxford United's efforts in the Capital One Cup last night are rewarded with an attractive tie when the second round draw is made this evening.

Goals from Carlton Morris and Danny Hylton saw the U's come from behind to win 2-1 at Sky Bet League One side Bristol City.

The upset at Ashton Gate means Appleton's men will face either a Premier League side not in playing in Europe this season, or one of the remaining Championship teams.

The biggest draw are Manchester United and Appleton, who began his playing career at the club, admitted it would be the dream tie.

But the U's head coach would be happy with any big name after the heroics last night.

He said: "Manchester United would be the obvious one, but every single team in the draw will be after that.

"It will just be a great opportunity for the players to be rewarded by going and having a good game somewhere."

The draw will be made after tonight's game between Coventry City and Cardiff City.

Full list of United's potential opponents:

That would be great... But what's the betting we get either Northampton or Swindon. Ever the optimist, me!

This round is seeded, we will only get a larger club I this round. Be happy to get a prem side although there are some big clubs in the championship nowadays. Great result last night hopefully the boys will get confidence from that and take it in to Saturday.. Hoping it's not like last season though when we perform better away from home!

It is. Thus, these are the potential opponents (or seeds as it were).

Similarly, we won't be getting Swindon or N'hampton.

It is a worry home form will again be poor. Saturdays performance wasn't good and as we all know showed how much we need a playmaking midfielder and goalscorer. Obviously the team gelled last night and didn't panic or lose shape after an early goal that would have almost certainly caused panic last season. MA does appear to have a good footballing brain and appears to know how the present players suit a particular formation, even tho some did look confused on Saturday, he obviously thinks it will work long term. We can't afford to drop far behind at this stage of the season but it's important where we finish that really counts. Well done to all last night, good result!
