GOLFING star Tony Jacklin is helping to design a major redevelopment at Magnolia Park.

The two-time major winner, who captained Europe to three successive Ryder Cup victories, is lending his expertise to a project which will see the construction of a par three championship course.

The 70-year-old was on site last week to oversee the progress.

He said: “I have been an advocate of par three golf for many years, which is why I am the ambassador for the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. I believe it is the future for golf.

“Alan (Pither, owner) and the team at Magnolia Park have a great vision for the future and want to provide its members with the best golfing facilities, and for me to join that team is a privilege.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Alongside the course development, Magnolia Park are building a 30-room hotel, including a Tony Jacklin-branded clubhouse bar, as well as lodges and staff accommodation for the 70 new jobs created.

It is due to be completed by 2016 and Pither said: “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with a golfing icon such as Tony Jacklin who I think will be a great asset to Magnolia Park throughout the relationship.”
