Oxford City have appointed Danny Nicholls as assistant manager.

Nicholls, a UEFA A licenced coach, brings a weath of non-league knowledge to the Conference North outfit.

He has managerial experience with Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury United and also enjoyed success as assistant manager at Kettering Town and Corby Town.

Nicholls will work alongside general manager Justin Merritt and coach Enrique Guillen.

Merritt said: “He brings exceptional technical and tactical knowledge and has a player-centred approach to coaching which fits into the ethos we are trying to build within the club.”

City have added former Northampton Town striker Lewis Wilson to their ranks.

Lewis, 21, a product of Rushden & Diamonds’ youth system, has Football League experience with the Cobbers as well as playing for Kettering Town.

Merritt added: “Lewis is very much a team player and wants to learn and develop.”

City have received a double boost ahead of the campaign which begins on August 9 with a trip to relegated Hyde United after Liam Malone and Kynan Isaac rejoined the Marsh Lane club from North Leigh and Banbury United respectively.

They again link up with striker Felipe Barcelos, who has returned after a year playing in Italy.

“We have many players join us for pre-season as well as some familiar faces,” said Merritt.

“The players are enjoying the sessions and are building a great rapport with each other.”

Tom Winters, Adam Learoyd, Lee Henderson, Darren Mullings, Mark Scott and Paul Stonehouse have all signed new deals.

Newly-promoted Southern League side Wantage Town have signed former Swindon Town academy youngster Jake Johns.

Midfielder Johns, who was released by the Robins last August, played at Swindon Supermarine and Thatcham Town last term.

Sam Barder and Gavin Kidd have been promoted from Wantage’s reserve side.

Wantage have also snapped up former North Leigh keeper Lee Farrow from Thame United.

Last season’s No 1, Gareth Tucker, has already signed for the new Division 1 South & West campaign.
