MOTORSPORT: Polden is out of luck as deluge takes toll
8:00am Saturday 5th July 2014 in Sport
Kidlington's Georgina Polden was philosophical after crashing out on the first lap in the latest round of the Motostar British Championship at Knockhill, Scotland.
After a mammoth drive north, Polden, 17, set a lap time of exactly one minute in the first free practice, before improving to 58.7secs by the next session on her first visit to the Fife circuit.
And it got even better for the RS Racing team rider as she cut her time to 56.6 to put her 16th on the grid.
Polden set a time of 55.5 in the warm-up, but that was as good as it got for the Oxfordshire teenager.
A minute before the 22-lap race was due to start, the track was hit by a downpour, which was to prove crucial as Polden parted company with her bike on the third corner.
“I just got a bit too excited and got on the power to early,” admitted Polden.
“I was really annoyed with myself, so I went to watch back in the pit lane I went to watch.
“Overall the weekend made big improvements to my confidence.”
Polden, who is still troubled by an ankle injury, is next in action in two weeks’ time when the Dunlop Aprilia Superteen Championship resumes at Brands Hatch.
