DESPITE losing a fish, Geoff Waddle won the Abingdon and Oxford Anglers Alliance’s first carp match of the series over the weekend.

Waddle triumphed with a 16lb 8oz mirror, but he also had a small common which escaped before weighing!

Five of the six anglers caught a fish, Gary Yates coming a close second with a 16.7.0 common. Matt Bailey was third with 12.8.0.

The next in the four-match series is on Friday July 25.

It was a case of keeping it in the Tomkins family when Marston AC FTBs fished their opening matches on the River Cherwell.

Steve Tomkins won their first Wednesday evening meeting with a weight of 3.15.0 of roach and from a fancied peg opposite the rollers.

Maurice Winstone was second of the 11 contestants with 2.8.0, while Mick Denton came third with 1.12.0.

On Sunday, Anthony Tomkins pushed his dad, Steve, into second place, catching roach and perch on the waggler for 5.7.0.

Tomkins senior recorded 3.9.0, while Wayne Rudman was third in the field of ten with 2.13.0.

Martin Robinson came out a clear winner when eight anglers fished the Masons AC points match at Lodge Farm, Fritwell.

Robinson collected 90.0.0 of carp, caught alternating between meat and paste on the pole.

Second came Dave Pether with 36.11.0, followed by Jason Smith with 32.8.0.

Tony Bailey landed five carp up to 13lb to record a winning weight of 35.7.0 in Littlemore AS’s first Aggregate Cup at Pimlico Farm, where 17 fished.

Runner.up Doug Robinson had three on the pole with maggot for 31.13.0, while Charlie Bishop nabbed a 15lb carp in his third.placed tally of 25.2.0.

Beehive AC fished their FA Cup first.round contest on a perfect Panshill, where more than 1,100lb of fish hit the scales from the 14 anglers.

Kevin Jeacock came out on top with with 133.0.0 of carp to pole and paste.

Dave Wilson, with 111.0.0 carp to pole and pellet, was second while third came Bob Alder with 96.00.

Steve Bartrum triumphed in Yarnton & District AC’s match on the Thames at Yarnton Meadow, Bartrum won with three bream, fishing worm on the feeder for 14.4.0.

Kieran Thorne was second on 10.1.0. Third was Pete Oliver with 5.13.0.
