Oxford United’s newest member of staff says a range of positive references convinced him to make the switch from a fellow Sky Bet League Two club, writes David Pritchard.

Andrew Proctor has been named as the new lead physiotherapist, replacing Andy Lord, who resigned last month to focus on his private practice in Hampshire.

He will start work on July 28 after serving his notice period at Exeter City.

While the 30-year-old is swapping one League Two club for another, feedback about the U’s from contacts within the game was the key to leaving the Grecians.

He said: “I spoke to numerous people – players or others who had worked with the manager (Gary Waddock) before – and no-one had anything negative to say at all.

“That was encouraging.”

As Proctor completes his notice with the Grecians, which includes a pre-season tour to Brazil, United’s existing physiotherapy staff will look after the first-team squad during pre-season.
