The new Oxford Summer League got under way with six teams of six anglers fishing the first round on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Great Bedwyn.

The skimmer bream and big perch fed well.

John Williams (Sensas A4) made the most of drawing a feature peg to net perch to 2lb and skimmers to 1lb on worm over chopped worm on the pole for a winning 12lb 3oz.

Chris Telling (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) also had some bonus perch to back up a net of small fish on squatt for 9.14.0 and second place, followed by Paul Harrop (Turners) just an ounce behind with skimmers and perch on red maggot.

Team result: 1 Sensas A4 30pts, 2 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Red 25, 3 Turners 22.

The last match in the Predator Spring League series saw 12 anglers break the lake record at Dog Lane, Napton.

The first three on the day also finished the series in that order.

Champion Matt Ryman (Predator) triumphed with 174.0.0 of mainly carp on long pole with pellet.

Tony Wright (Predator) caught 85.0.0 of carp from the margins on pole and paste for second place, while Henry Clarke was third with 53.0.0 on paste and pellet.

The fourth match of the Oxford Carp League series was fished by 15 at Rissington.

The fish had spawned during the previous week, which meant a hard match for most.

Mick Lane kept up his recent good form, taking carp on maggot and sweetcorn with just the top kit of his pole to win with 144.2.0.

Ivan Graham (J&K Tackle) had 132.0.0 of carp on pole and maggot down the margins, taking fish to 10lb.

Third place went to Richard Foley with an all-carp haul of 114.0.0 on sweetcorn.

There was a good turn-out of 15 for Yarnton & District AC’s match at Rissington.

Kieran Thorne led them home with an all-carp weight of 119.5.0 on meat and worm.

Andy Wiffen had 82.13.0 for second, followed by Nick Paxton with 74.13.0.

Yarnton have been going through a lean spell in recent years, and are now looking for new members.

They have two meadows on the Thames, one at Cassington and the next stretch downstream – Yarnton Meadow.

Permits cost £20 for adults, £10 for OAPs and are free to juniors under 16.
