PAUL Fernandez fell just short of the 200km barrier during the Gloucester 24-hour track race.

The Abingdon AC ultra marathon specialist finished third after completing 498 400m laps.

This gave the 40-year-old a total distance of 199.2km, with winner Dan Lawson recording 242.8km over 607 laps.

Fernandez’s best effort for the event came with 204.362km at Tooting Bec in 2010.

OXFORD City’s Roy Treadwell was the second vet 65 man home in the British Masters 5K Championships at Horwich.

Treadwell clocked 19mins 5secs, with winner Pete Molloy (Swindon Harriers) recording 17.48.

DAVE Cantwell finished fourth in the Humph’s Hilly Half Marathon at Bourton-on-the-Water.

The Woodstock Harriers athlete completed the challenging course in 1hr 21mins 36secs to take the second vet 40 prize.

His wife, and fellow Woodstock athlete, Sue picked up the first vet 40 ladies’ prize after finishing 58th overall in 1.42.49.
