MOTORSPORT:Steady Plato moves up to fourth

Oxford's Jason Plato moved up one place in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion-ship standings with three top-four finishes in the fouirth round at Oulton Park on Sunday Driving his MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save car, Plato recorded one third and two fourth places to go up one spot to fourth in the overall standings.
But he trails 36 points behind new leader Colin Turkington, who reached the top of the standings for the first time since his 2009 title success, after claiming a double victory.
The 32-year-old, driving for eBay Motors, dictated proceedings from the outset, securing pole position in a damp qualifying session on Saturday ahead of Plato and Honda Yuasa Racing’s Gordon Shedden.
In the first race, Turkington's teammate Rob Collard got the jump on Plato and Shedden off the line and was able to protect the sister BMW ahead of him in the opening laps.
The duo pulled clear, and although Collard was never close enough to make a move on Turkington. Plato came third, five seconds behind Turkington.
In the second race, Plato wasfourth as Turkington completed a double.
Irishman Aron Smith, the VW driver, scored a second career victory in the final showdown, leading from lights-to-flag after a deluge of rain descended on the Cheshire circuit.
Plato, who received a 1.5secs penalty for an incident involving Turkington, again had to settle for fourth Standings (after 4 rounds): 1 C Turkington 183pts, 2 G Shedden 174, 3 A Jordan 156, 4 J Plato 147, 5 R Collard 125, 6 M Neal 117.
Chipping Norton’s Sean Walkinshaw finished seventh and 12th as he scored his first points of the season in rounds three and four of the EuroFormula Open in Portugal.
