Javelin thrower Freddie Curtis will represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland’s junior team in Sunday’s Loughborough International.

The 19-year-old, from Hardwick, near Bicester, is set for his seasonal debut in the event, which also features teams from England, Scotland, Wales, British Universities and the hosts.

Curtis, who is studying at Loughborough University, finished 2013 second in the UK under 20 rankings with a best throw of 69.48m.

Meanwhile, John Nelson was Alchester’s star peformer at a windy Oxford Town & Gown 10K.

Nelson was the first vet 50 man home and 41st overall in a time of 37mins 33secs.

Samantha Usher was Alchester’s leading lady, clocking 40.46 for 31st and fourth in the vet 35 category.

David Kuester signed off as a vet 65 athlete with victory in the Midlands (British) Mas-ters Throwers Group Weight Pentathlon at Moorways Stadium, Derby.

The Bicester thrower, who was the only competitor in his age group, finished with a total of 2,644 points.

Kuester, who turns 70 on Sunday, threw the hammer 30.99m, shot put 8.00m, discuss 21.11m, javelin 27.37m and heavyweight 12.34m.
