COACH Ryan Demaine saw his Headington School girls star at the Wallingford Regatta at Dorney Lake – the biggest one-day regatta in the country.

Headington won the women’s elite eights and added three second places and one third.

Host club Wallingford had four top-three placings – a first, second and two thirds.

The gold came from their women in the lightweight double sculls, Amy Grieve and Minna Jones-Walters winning by a convincing margin of 17 seconds.

Jonny Singfield, in his fifth season as the St Edward’s School first squad coach, is keeping up the high standards he set at Henley.

His top boys crew – runners-up in the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley Royal Regatta – raced in the elite coxed fours and elite eights, finishing second and third respectively.

The eights final saw Teddies better St Paul’s, the only crew to beat them in the Schools Head.

Magdalen College were second in the challenge eights, while Abingdon School came second in the J18 Eights, and City of Oxford finished third in the women’s elite coxed fours.

Wallingford’s J16 coxed four finished second, while the women’s J18 coxed pair of Alice Walker and Katie Metalli came third, as did their women’s J15 coxed four, out of a strong field of 18 crews.

Abingdon were second in the J18 eights.

  •  FOUR Oxford Brookes University members – Mason and Scott Durant, Matthew Tarrant and Olivia Carnegie-Brown – were in the men’s and women’s GB eights sent to race in the Windermere Cup in Seattle.

The women just lost, but the men won, both against Washington University.
