SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL: Vale sunk by Southampton

First published in Sport

Vale of White Horse Under 13s were unable to prevent Southampton lifting the Meeson Trophy as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Milton United.

It saw Southampton complete their programme in the league-based competition with a 100 per cent record.

Joe Fleming and Joe Blackwell shone in defence for Vale.

But they were unable to stop the visitors scoring the decisive goal ten minutes into the second half.

And Southampton should have doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a mistimed tackle, but Matthew Crowther saved the spot-kick.
