ROAD RUNNING

DIANE Moore surprised herself by storming to victory in the Maidenhead Easter 10.

Moore (Headington Road Runners) was the first lady home in the ten-mile race, crossing the line in a personal best time of 1hr 2mins 49secs.

The 39-year-old finished 44th overall and more than 90 seconds ahead of second-placed Julia Belyarin (Bristol & West), who clocked 1.04.36.

Moore, who also won the Carterton 10K last month, told the Maidenhead Advertiser: “I’m surprised and pleased.

“I didn't expect to win at all because I'm just getting back into training after a bit of a break.

“I haven’t run here before and it’s a really lovely course.”

Moore also led Headington to the ladies’ team title, backed up by Adrienne Hopkins (1.10.30) and Rebecca Campbell (1.10.43).

James Bolton broke Woodstock Harriers’ vet 40 men’s record when finishing fifth in the same race.

Bolton recorded a best time of 53.52 to be the second vet 40 man home.

With Brian O’Connor 19th in 58.56 and Dave Cantwell 29th in 59.51, Woodstock were also second in the men’s team competition.

Witney Road Runners were third in that category, with Tegid Jones (57.46) leading them home in 13th place.

Tony Lock (59.15) continued his return to form in 22nd, with fellow vet 40 athlete Tom Garrod (1.01.36) 36th.

Oxford City’s Dave Parsons was the second vet 60 man home in 1.05.14.
