DONNACHA Tuohy fulfilled a boyhood dream when riding his first winner on Viel Gluck for Aston Rowant trainer Alan Hill at Kimble’s Kimblewick Hunt meeting on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, from Cork, joined Hill and his wife, Lawney, last October through his father’s mutual friendship with eventing rider Austin O’Connor, who is based at Tetsworth.

And he struck gold on his sixth ride when outsider-of-three Viel Gluck galloped home by four lengths from One Wish in the opening confined.

“It’s what I dreamed of since I was very young,” said Tuohy.

“I’m very thankful to Lawney and Alan Hill. Since I came over they have looked after me and treated me like part of the family.”

It triggered a third successive treble at the fixture in front of a big crowd for Hill, following his hat-tricks in 2011 and 2012 with the meeting being abandoned last year.

Start Royal made it a quickfire double for the trainer by repelling the renewed challenge of Rossmore Lad by two lengths under Gina Andrews in the ladies’ open.

The ten-year-old is now set to head for Fontwell on May 15, before going for the AGA final at Stratford on May 30.

Hill Forts Gloria, with Tom Ellis on board, completed Hill’s treble when getting off the mark with a six-lengths success in the open maiden.

Hill’s hopes of a four-timer in the members’ race were dashed when Alpha Native was unable to catch Goodnight Vienna, who provided Tetsworth trainer Lynn Redman with a welcome change of fortune.

Rachel Talbot, fresh from riding her first winner at Andoversford six days earlier, made all the running on the eight-year-old to beat the 4-5 favourite by four lengths.

Redman said: “We lost two horses which had to be put down at King-ston Blount last week, and my other horse today has bled, so I was beginning to think we were cursed.”

Marufo provided a family success in the men’s open for Tracey Bailey, who trains at Chilton Foliat, near Hungerford, in the colours of her brother, Nick Sutton, with his son, Dominic, on board.

The 12-year-old rallied on the run-in to score by a length after being headed by Gunmoney at the last fence, before Sutton dashed off to ride at Chaddesley Corbett.

All six favourites were beaten, with Roskeen Boy, who had only moved to Martin Wanless’s Ettington yard, near Stratford a week ago, providing a 10-1 surprise in the restricted when coming with a flying finish under Harry Beswick to beat Tousupreme by half a length.
