HENLEY’S Leander Club members won six of the 12 finals in the Great Britain Senior Team Trials at Caversham on Saturday.

The men’s pairs A final was the highlight of the event with two members of the Team GB Olympic-winning men’s four boat going head-to-head.

Oxford’s Andy Triggs Hodge, partnered by George Nash, was unable to get the better of former crewmate Alex Gregory, who edged to victory with Mohamed Sbihi.

Gregory, of Leander, saw his boat headed by Triggs Hodge, but fought back to claim the win in a time of 7mins 2.57secs – less than a second in front.

The B final saw Mason Durant, of Oxford Brookes University, triumph with Phil Congdon.

Durant pushed the Brookes duo of Edward Grisedale and Richard Hawkins into second.

In single sculls, Leander’s Charles Cousins won the A final, with clubmate Jonny Walton taking the B final.

There was a strong local contingent in the lightweight single sculls A final, with Jamie Kirkwood beating fellow Leander member Will Fletcher. Brothers Peter and Richard Chambers, of Oxford Brookes, were third and fourth.

For the women, Leander’s Polly Swann partnered Jessica Eddie to second spot in the pairs A final behind Olympic champions Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.

In the B final, Leander’s Michelle Pearson and Katherine Douglas triumphed.

In the single scull A final, Wheatley’s Frances Houghton had to settle for second place behind Leander clubmate Victoria Thornley.

It was a Leander one-two in the B final, with Louisa Reeve beating Katie Greves, a former Headington School pupil.
