YORK City boss Nigel Worthington believes their victory at Fratton Park last month was good preparation for this afternoon’s clash against Oxford United.

The Minstermen won 1-0 in front of 16,000 at Portsmouth to help get them into contention for the Sky Bet League Two play-offs.

While the attendance at the Kassam Stadium will be less than half that level, Worthington thinks it is a worthy comparison.

He told The Press: “I have related it to Portsmouth.

“There probably won’t be 16,000 at Oxford, but it is a big stage — go and play.

“Go and soak the atmosphere up and do what we are good at.

“If you can quiet the crowd then that is a plus, but just keep your nerve, stay focused and enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, York forward Michael Coulson is facing a dilemma if they can finish in the top seven.

He said: “If we get into the play-offs, I’ll miss my own stag do, which isn’t ideal.

“There’s 30 of us due to go to Butlins, but if we stay in the play-off places I’ll have to give it a miss.”
