City's Andy Ballard heads just over

OXFORD City felt hard done by as they went down 2-1 to Altrincham at Marsh Lane last night.

The win moved the promotion- chasing visitors up a place to third in Skrill North, while City remain fourth from bottom, still unsure of their place for next season.

The home side made much of the early running before Altrincham began to get into the game, taking the lead on 16 minutes through James Walshaw.

There was little to choose between the two sides as City battled back before the break, Paul Stonehouse sending the ball over the top from a Zac McEachran cross.

Early in the second half, Jake Moult shot straight at City keeper Mark Scott, while at the other end, Mark Preece scraped the Altrincham crossbar from Michael Pook’s corner.

Altrincham grabbed their second goal in the 82nd minute when a speculative effort from range by Moult left Scott with no chance.

Mike Ford’s men refused to throw in the towel and substitute Kayden Jackson saw his goalbound shot blocked by Adam Griffin at the expence of a corner.

Their determination was rewarded in stoppage time.

Jackson worked his way into the box before unleashing a powerful drive that the Altrincham keeper could only watch as it crashed into the back of the net, but it came too late as time ran out on City.

Oxford City: Scott, Ballard, Stonehouse, Pook, Henderson, Preece, Solomon-Otabor (Winters 65), Mullings, Symonds (O’Hanlon 73), Pond, McEachran (Jackson 69). Subs not used: Willmott, Basham.
