MIDLAND COUNTIES YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
OXFORDSHIRE Under 16s suffered semi-final agony after a 2-1 defeat away to West Riding in the League Cup.
The match at West Riding’s Leeds HQ saw Oxon equalise after a controversial early goal, but they could not repeat the trick in the second half.
Riding took the lead via James Hullock’s quickly-taken free kick, with the visitors waiting in vain for the referee to blow his whistle.
Will McEachran (Oxford City) equalised on 27 minutes after good work from clubmates Jordi Mulvaney and Jack Tutton.
City’s Matt Peake Pijen had a fierce shot saved at the second attempt on the hour mark, shortly before Mulvaney was foiled by a double save.
However, a long clearance found Hullock, who netted a wind-assisted winner.
