Truro City 5, Banbury Utd 0

Banbury's horrendous run of defeats continued with a five-goal stuffing away to Truro City on Saturday.

This was the ninth successive Calor League Premier Division loss for Edwin Stein’s men – which equals the club record for successive league defeats within a season, set back in 1964-65.

Banbury gave a debut to forward Stuart Fraser, signed from Malmesbury Victoria, while Rayston Whyte, previously with Hertford Heath and Hatfield made his first appearance off the bench.

The visitors never recovered after conceding early goals against a Truro side, in their first match under new player-manager Steve Tully.

The visitors never looked like scoring, and with better finishing, the Cornishmen could have won by an even bigger margin.

They took the lead after eight minutes when Cody Cooke converted Dan Greene’s cross from the right.

Monty Berrow made it 2-0, netting from Les Afful’s cross.

Paul Kendall added a third just before half-time when he was unmarked at substitute Jordan Copp’s corner.

In the second half, Banbury were more in the game, and Adeyinka Talabi was denied by a fine save from home keeper Grant Fisher.

Copp made it 4-0 before substitute Liam Eddy added a fifth with a neat lob over keeper Scott Dutton.

The only relief for Banbury was that they did not concede in the last 25 minutes.

Banbury Utd: Dutton, Cray, Mullarkey, Isaac (Whyte 85), Bevis, Obeng, Dias, Martin (Strafford 74), Fraser (Tappin 46), Green, Talabi.

Attendance: 369.
