IAN Lenagan expects Oxford United to unveil a new manager this weekend after their chosen candidate verbally accepted the post this afternoon.

If all the formalities are completed as expected then they will take over in time for Monday's trip to Southend United.

Lenagan, United's chairman, said: "We offered the position of manager at Oxford United to the final candidate earlier this afternoon and he's accepted verbally.

"We expect the final contract, which has been sent, to be signed tomorrow.

"If that is the case - it could drift into Sunday but we'd rather it didn't - then the manager will take over and be in charge for the game on Monday.

It is almost eight weeks since United began their search for a manager after Chris Wilder left.

Mickey Lewis was put in caretaker charge and will lead the side for a 12th game at home to Hartlepool United tonight.

He declined to be involved in the final interview process, but will remain at the club.
