A 3-1 defeat at home to Sevenoaks on Saturday means Oxford Hawks need a point from their last two fixtures to avoid getting sucked into the South League Premier Division 1 relegation fight.

The Kent outfit, who recruited several ex-National League players this season in their bid for promotion, lie second in the table behind title favourites Chichester.

They took the lead in the first half and a mistake in the Hawks defence after the break gave the home side a mountain to climb as Sevenoaks went further ahead.

Kit Cutter scored via a rebound off the keeper from a short corner to give the home side hope, but Sevenoaks added a third and a number of late Hawks short corners proved fruitless.

Oxford University stay fourth in the table after a 4-3 victory at home to London Wayfarers.

Alex Stobbart (2), Gus Kennedy and Oliver Sugg were their marksmen.

Oxford Hawks 2nd picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against Horsham, but stay second from bottom. Dan Andrews scored their goal.

Oxford maintained their promotion push in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional 1 with a 5-1 triumph over Aylesbury. Dan Bleach led the way with two goals, the others coming from Callum MacKenzie, Matt McKeown and Russell Self. Witney look doomed to the drop after crashing 7-1 to fellow strugglers Staines 2nd, while Wallingford lost 3-2 to Eastcote, Ed Allen and Rowan Wheeler scoring their goals.

There’s no stopping Oxford Hawks 3rd at the top of MBB&O Division 1.

They maintained their unbeaten record and took their goals tally to 98 with a 3-2 victory over closest rivals Wokingham 2nd as Jamie Clark, Paul Humphreys and Baz Marshall found the net.

It was Hawks’ 19th win in 20 games.
