Georgina Polden suffered mixed fortunes in the opening round of the Aprilia Superteen Challenge at Brands Hatch.

The Oxford teenager was hit by a series of problems ahead of the opening race, but recovered well to post a series of decent finishes.

The 17-year-old’s bike blew up in testing, and after being made to use her spare equipment, experienced more misfortune when her clutch went on the start of the opening race.

That forced her to begin from the back of the grid, but a fine display saw the Kidlington resident race through the field to finish tenth.

Things got even better when the next three races brought her a trio of fourth-placed finishes, ensuring the opening round ended on a high.

“Everything was going wrong to start with, but luckily I managed to pull it round,” Polden said.

“I’m very happy with my performance in the end and am looking forward to round two at Donnington Park on April 12-13.”
