Didcot Town’s home woes continue with a 1-0 defeat to promotion-chasing Tiverton Town in Calor League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

But there was plenty to be positive about as Didcot pushed the visitors all the way.

The game’s pivotal moment arrived in just the third minute when Tiverton struck the winning goal.

Ryan Richards broke clear of the Didcot backline and fired home into the far corner of the net.

The visitors almost added another on 20 minutes. Sam Malsom thundered a 25-yard free-kick onto the outside of the upright with Didcot keeper Alex Williams well beaten.

Sam Elkins also had to be alert to clear another effort from the lively Richards off the ine.

For Didcot, Luke Carnell’s overhead shot was saved under the bar by keeper Michael Searle, while Ben Whitehead saw a shot flash just wide on the stroke of half-time.

Didcot were much better after the break and came close several times to grabbing a share of the points.

Pablo Haysham thundered a shot inches wide of the target on 63 minutes.

And it was Haysham again seven minutes later, who struck a left-foot volley that Searle did brilliantly to turn around a post.

With Didcot throwing caution to the wind, Malsom should have settled things at the other end, but he dragged his shot wide from close range.

The Railwaymen almost levelled at the death, but Searle again was on hand to block Matty Woodley’s 30-yard free-kick.
