CHINNOR’S relegation worries increased with a 29-13 defeat at Cambridge.

The Thame-based side, who were second after four games, slipped into the drop zone on fewer wins.

Chinnor can at least take solace from the fact that there are three teams within four points of them.

Centre Matt Goode’s first of a try double put Chinnor ahead on 12 minutes, but hooker Ean Griffiths soon replied for Cambridge.

It was 5-5 after a dour first half, but the hosts took control in the second period, scoring three more tries.

James Stokes slotted a penalty and then converted a try scored by fellow centre James Ayrton.

Stokes and full back James Wiggleworth also got on the scoresheet, with the former converting both tries.

Goode powered over for his second try on 69 minutes, but the visitors were well beaten.

Chinnor now host relegation rivals Launceston at Kingsey Road on Saturday in what is arguably the biggest match of their season.
