Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon equalled his previous best tally of 69 winners for a National Hunt season when Battle Born scored at Bangor yesterday.

Sent off the 4-5 favourite, the five-year-old followed up last month’s Warwick win with an easy success in the National Hunt Flat Race over two miles and a furlong.

Charlie Deutsch sent the gelding into the lead more than three furlongs from home, and his mount drew clear to slam Fearless Tunes by 31 lengths.

Longsdon’s previous best came in the 2011-12 season, and he’s matched that figure with more than eight weeks left of this campaign.

The Chipping Norton handler missed the winner as he was at Cheltenham for the unveiling of the weights for the Festival handicaps.

He said that Pendra, who he has always held in high regard, is likely to go for the Rewards4Racing Novices’ Handicap Chase over two and a half miles.

“Hopefully he’s my best chance,” said Longsdon.
