MIKE Jones triumphed in the deciding match as Vikings Club won 3-2 away at West Oxford Democrats Club to reach the semi-finals of the Gracie J’s League Cup, writes PETE EWINS.

Terry Green (7,180) put Democrats into an early lead, only for Alan Oliver and Richard Garrett to hit back for Vikings.

John Patey made it all-square after a narrow win over Allan Lacey to set up a deciding rubber.

And Jones was the hero for Vikings, holding his nerve to see off Billy Hill 5,800-2,080.

Masons A’s victory over Marlborough Club was another to go to the wire.

Adam Ingram (3,490) and Pete Rose (4,430) were victorious for Marlborough, but wins from Mick Murphy (6,440), Martyn Wood (4,890) and Maxi McDonnell clinched Masons’ last-four berth.

Gladiators Club A are also through after Dave Jarman, Keith Gardner and Frank Cox took the first three games in their match at Headington Conservative Club.

Dave Gordon pulled one back for Headington, but Bert Lovegrove made it 4-1 in the final match.

Berinsfield beat Didcot Conservative Club 3-2 to complete the semi-final line-up, for which the draw takes place this weekend.
