Yellow Army to change Oxford United supporters' bar name

Bicester Advertiser: The Yellow Army intend to hold a vote for supporters to come up with a new name for the bar The Yellow Army intend to hold a vote for supporters to come up with a new name for the bar

THE supporters' bar at the Kassam Stadium will be renamed as part of new plans by the Yellow Army.

Since the start of the season the area in the South Stand has been known as the 12th Man Bar.

It was overseen by all the supporter groups which make up the Yellow Army.

But earlier this month, the group announced the 12th Man, who have raised almost £60,000 for transfers since 2009, were leaving to work independently.

Last week they announced funds had been used to sponsor Josh Ashby's away shirt until the end of the season.

When contacted yesterday treasurer Trevor Lambert declined to comment on the change of name at the bar, but their committee were due to hold a meeting last night to consider plans for the future.

The Yellow Army will man the bar from United’s next home game, against Burton Albion on Saturday, March 8.

They are hoping new measures, including selling their own merchandise, will increase funds raised and improve ties with the U’s.

Charlie Methven, trustee of United’s Youth and Community Trust, said: “It’s the first time in a generation that fans are playing an active part in the life of our club, so I’d appeal to those fans who have not become more involved to do so, because it’s what makes Oxford United so special.”

The crap rip-off bar. Why does anyone use it other than convenience? We still don't know what percentage of the profits the club gets from it. I won't be using it nor joining oxvox (and not just because of the right-to-bid stadium fiasco) nor giving any money to 'improve the atmosphere'. The only fans group I would support would be 12th Man because I know the profits go towards signing players. Too many egos at work in Oxvox/Yellow Army with the cut-and-paste-king, the innocent football hoolie and the reformed old etonian gossip columnist.
