THE Oxford Canal came to the rescue again last week, enabling clubs to stage matches while the county’s rivers were over their banks.

Kidlington AS’s Harry Par-sons Trophy match on the New Bridge section of the canal produced some decent weights.

Jason Bean finished top of the pile with a mixed bag of mostly skimmers and roach for a winning 7lb 7.0oz.

He used pinkie on the pole over groundbait.

Close behind was Dave Britnell with 6.15.0 on the pole with bread punch, while club president Ron Hillier was third with 4.6.0.

He caught roach and skimmers on punch, plus roach and perch on lobworm, all on the pole.

Ten Tackley Estates AC anglers fished Stable Lake and it was a fight to the finish, with just one fish separating the top three.

Tim Wray captured top spot with 35.0.0 of bream and carp on legered maggot.

He pipped Stephen Malone with 33.8.0 and third-placed Mick Merry with 32.8.0. Both caught carp on legered maggot.
