Takara Haines scored twice as Oxford Hawks resumed their Conference West programme with a 3-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Exe at Banbury Road North.

The home side got off to a flier, almost opening the scoring in the first minute as a goalmouth scramble was cleared.

It took them 15 minutes to find the net from their fifth penalty corner, with Lucy Stewart’s strike being cleverly touched in by Katie Hewitt. In the second half, Hawks upped the tem-po, playing some fine attacking hockey.

Their patience paid off when the ball was stopped on the line by an Exe foot, and Haines (pictured) stepped up to convert the resulting penalty stroke.

She added another moments later with a great strike, but it wasn’t all one-way traffic, Exe winning a number of penalty corners, one of which was converted.

A tremendous one-on-one save from Jess Hughes prevented a nervous finish for the home side, who consolidated third place in the table.

Goals from Emily Malden and Rachael Lammey helped Oxford to a 2-2 draw against Spencer in South Clubs League Division 2.

Consistent scorer Claire Werlinger was on the mark again as Oxford Hawks 2nd beat Witney 1-0 to remain top of Division 3A.

Bicester went down 2-1 at home to Wycombe 2nd in Trysports 3-Counties League Premier 1. After dominating the first half, Bicester conceded a goal early in the second period and then went further behind.

Ruth Thomas reduced the arrears in the last ten minutes, but they could not find an equaliser.
