Furious Banbury United boss Edwin Stein says he will not tolerate a repeat of Tuesday’s horror show at Chesham United which saw them crash to an 8-0 defeat.

It was their worse loss since November 1983 when they slumped 8-0 at Shepshed Charterhouse in the Southern League Midland Division.

Stein, who took over the Premier Division club in September 2012, said he was horrified by the display at Chesham and accused some of the players of not taking responsibility.

“I don’t want to blame the referee for our result, but his decisions started the demise,” said Stein.

“We were without Kynan Isaac, Adeyinka Talabi and Leon Simpson on Tuesday.

“I don’t have a huge squad, so without them it was going to be a struggle.

“I played some younger people, but I still feel that the players that have been here long-term should have been supporting them.

“We had four or five players that were trying to hold it together.

“Certain people relinquished responsibility for their roles.

“You could see it in the body language. I only want people here who are fully committed.

“I’m more disappointed for the fans. They have been fantastic and they didn’t deserve that.

“It’s the worst performance since I came here.”

Stein says the players have the chance to respond should tomorrow’s home game with Biggleswade Town survive the poor weather.

“We are going to prepare as if it’s going ahead. It’s the chance to put it right.”

Stein added: “If people deem I’m not doing my job, then that’s fine, I’m not going to be shouting and screaming about it.

“I have confidence in my ability and am not going to let Tuesday cast a shadow on what we’re trying to do.”

Didcot Town are hopeful the pitch at the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium will be fit for the visit of Wimborne Town in Division 1 South & West.

If it goes ahead, Didcot will be without Kameron Abbassi (hamstring), Lance Williams (ankle), Pablo Haysham and Jack Longford (both unavailable).

North Leigh boss Mark Gee says there is little hope their home game with Mangotsfield United will be on.

“The pitch was playable on Tuesday, but on Wednesday we had a deluge, said Gee. “It’s got no chance if we get the rain that is forecast.”
