Henrietta Knight, whose husband Terry Biddlecombe died earlier this month, has broken her right ankle and two bones in her leg in a freak accident at West Lockinge Farm, near Wantage.

The 67-year-old former trainer was rounding up the geese by the duck pond when she slipped on a paving slab, hitting her foot on the edge of the concrete.

Knight, who famously saddled Best Mate to win a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cups from 2002-4, underwent an operation in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, on Saturday night, with the ankle being pinned and plated.

And there was a possibility she may face further plastic surgery.

Knight will be keen to leave hospital as soon as possible with a celebration of Biddlecombe’s life planned to be held at Cheltenham next month.
