Oxford City assistant manager Stuart Peace admitted he was disappointed to see their Skrill North clash at Leamington abandoned on Saturday, but that it was the correct decision.

The match had been in play for just 13 minutes with the score still 0-0 when play was suspended in the midst of a ferocious storm.

Despite the conditions, what play there was had been surprisingly attractive to watch, with both sides attempting to pass the ball around on a slick surface.

However, water had begun to pool in places and after a brief consultation with his assistants, referee Neil Hair decided to halt the game due to safety concerns as lightning illuminated the sky over the New Windmill Ground.

But Peace expressed his frustration after their preparations were foiled by bad weather again.

“We did a lot of work in the week, especially after Tuesday night,” he said.

“I thought we started really brightly. “Our ball retention was excellent and you could see that what we’ve been trying to do was hopefully coming to fruition.

“But what can you judge on 15 minutes?

“Unfortunately, the heavens did open and it was the right decision by the referee without a shadow of a doubt. I don’t think it was playable.

“It’s frustrating, but we’ve just got to take the positives from that short 13 minutes and take them into the next game.”
