Light bantamweight Nathan Hall, from Windrush Valley, was in impressive form as he beat Portsmouth’s Billy Cable on points at his club’s first show of the season at Browne’s Hall in Carterton.

The 14-year-old Home Counties Schoolboy champion and national semi-finalist, bossed the bout with crisp incisive shots for a unanimous points decision.

Six years ago, the club, whose head coach is Steve Setch, lost everything in the floods, but after fundraising they relocated to Browne’s Hall.

One of their coaches is Joe Bugner junior, son of the ex-British heavyweight champion.

Secretary Ann Setch said: “We have been allocated some land in the area, so we’re continuing to fundraise for that.”

The event was attended by guest of honour IBO intercontinental superweight champion Kelvin Young, who presented the trophies.

Shaun Callaway, ten, started the show off with a skills bout against Akeel Hussain (Strike 06). which demonstrated the techniques and fitness needed to be successful in the sport.

Young was also introduced to club juniors Zach Ryerson, 11, Callaway, Jimmy Doran, 12, and Tommy Connors, 16, who has represented the Home Counties.

Doran later outclassed opponent Archie Ward (Cheshunt) from the bell, with straight jabs and fancy footwork to take a unanimous win in their 38k clash.

Harry Connors, 15, lacked fitness and saw his bantamweight bout with Malachi Borrell was stopped.

Windrush’s Lewis Townsend lost on points to Portsmouth rival Walid Adenas.

Bantamweight Tommy Connors was in explosive form from the start against Islington’s Safi Abdulah. His class and accuracy should have given him the win, but he lost on points.

Windrush newcomer, flyweight Harr-ison Greeves, also lost on points to Asad Jalal.
