Oxford City’s Skrill North match against leaders North Ferriby United at Marsh Lane tonight is subject to a morning pitch inspection, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Saturday’s home match with promotion-chasing Altrincham was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and officials fear this evening’s fixture could suffer the same fate.

Manager Mike Ford said: “The lads trained for a few hours on Saturday and I got the feeling that they’d really look forward to playing a game.

“But we’ve been doing some new, interesting things in training, so hopefully we can put those into practice soon.”

With a host of postponements in recent weeks, City have played fewer matches than most sides in the league, but Ford said he was not concerned that they will be playing catch-up.

He added: “Last year we had a run of playing three games a week and we only lost once in a dozen games, so it does give you a chance to put a run together.”

North Leigh manager Mark Gee believes his side have a great chance of picking up their first win of 2014 as they host struggling Bishops Cleeve in Calor League Division 1 South & West.

The Millers ended their six-game losing run with a 2-2 draw at Godalming Town on Saturday, and Gee is hopeful they have turned the corner.

“They’re third from bottom and it’s a match we would have approached ten games ago and just expected to win,” he said.

“Obviously it’s a confidence thing, but good players don’t become bad players overnight, so I have full confidence that they’re capable of getting back to winning ways.”

North Leigh will be without Jacob Walcott, who is at a funeral, while Aaron Woodley will undergo a fitness test on a recurring hamstring problem.
