OXFORD City Stars made it three league wins in a row and six in all competitions with a workmanlike 5-1 away victory at Wightlink Tigers.

Two goals from Nick Oliver and one apiece from Josh Oliver, Jeff Sykora and Jonathan Bayliss keep Stars level on points with Slough Jets at the top of the South Division 2 table.

The clash got off to an explosive start with five goals and a match penalty in the opening period.

The hosts went ahead when Lewis Tribble fired home from close range after a pass from Joseph Denness.

Stars quickly got back in the game with a goal from Josh Oliver a minute later on the breakaway.

Four minutes later, his brother, and captain, Nick, put the visitors ahead after a great pass from Alan Green.

Wightlink managed to get themselves into penalty trouble which gave the Stars a chance to extend their lead.

First, Tony Blaize picked up a minor penalty for hooking, before Andrew Robinson earned himself an early shower after being ejected from the game for checking from behind.

This gave Stars a five-minute, powerplay including a spell of more than 60 seconds with a two-man advantage.

And they took full advantage.

Nick Oliver scored his second after an Andy Cox pass and, 43 seconds later, the visitors made it 4-1 with a goal from Sykora.

The second period was uneventful, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.

The only incident of note was a fight, that broke out when Wight-link’s Joseph Denness jumped Jake Florey.

In the third period, Bayliss scored five minutes after the restart to make the points safe.

The Oxford man fired in from distance after being set up by Josh Oliver and Florey.

It was then a case of the visitors making sure that they kept things tight at the back, and they did this with few alarms.

Netminder James Skaife ended with a 96.43 per cent save percentage.

Stars travel to Wales this weekend to take on Cardiff Devils 2nd, and with leaders Slough not in action, if they avoid defeat, Oxford will return to the top of the table.
