Oxfordshire county player Deta Hedman is hoping a low-profile approach will help her achieve her dream of becoming BDO world champion at Lakeside today.

The 54-year-old top seed, who faces Denmark’s Ann-Louise Peters in the semi-finals at the Frimley Green venue in Surrey this afternoon, has deliberately tried to stay out of the spotlight as he chases a first world title.

Before her 2-0 win over Germany’s Irina Armstrong in the quarter-finals on Thursday night, Hedman said: “I’m trying to keep a low profile to achieve my dream.

“I am 100 per cent focused on winning the title.”

The ‘Dark Destroyer’ didn’t score so well against the eighth seed as in her first-round win over England teammate Lorraine Farlam, but still ran out a clear-cut 2-0 winner.

Hedman, who lives at Witham in Essex, took the first set 3-1.

She then clinched victory by taking the second 3-2, hitting her first 180 of the tournament in a 13-dart leg on the way.

Hedman will be hoping for victory over the unseeded Peters to claim a place in the final, which takes places tonight.
