Asa Hall returns to Shrewsbury after Oxford United loan spell end

Bicester Advertiser: Asa Hall Asa Hall

ASA Hall has returned to Shrewsbury Town after his loan at Oxford United expired.

The 27-year-old rejoined the U’s for a second spell in July and has been a regular in the first half of the season.

Hall made 21 appearances, starting 16 games, and scored three goals before the deal ran out yesterday.

Both United and the player had made it clear they were keen on extending the loan until the end of the season.

Last month Shrews manager Graham Turner was quoted saying the arrangement was “advantageous” to the U’s.

A move remains a possibility for Hall, who is out of contract this summer, but with the clubs yet to reach an agreement he has returned to the Sky Bet League One club for the moment.

It leaves the U’s light on senior players for Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup.

They will also be without Dave Kitson, whose suspension is still in place following yesterday’s postponement of United’s game at Newport County.

More bad & sad news. Our squad is already far too small. Hall has been playing really well for us & is commited. We can't replace that attitude so easily

There's trouble ahead unless the club have something up their sleeve in the Midfield department. Agree that Hall is key to us at the moment, has a good attitude and a new player would need time to settle in.

And who do we raise the issues with regarding our players, or lack of them?

Mr Wilder that's who, he has control over player recruitment and suchlike, so if were in the pooh it's down to him.

As stated before, Wilder OUT.

Surely CW doesn't hold the purse strings, it's IL and the board. As Asa Hall has gone back to Shrewsbury we can use that money to get a replacement, although it's not ideal. January will be an interesting month for us as we know the team is short on quality players. If we have real ambition about getting promotion then I'm sure IL and the board will act. It's not fair and we cannot expect the younger players to get us up.

Cannot see a problem about getting someone else in on loan. Hall generally put in what he has...but what he has is still a bit limited. I know Wilder has a pretty dreadful record with his loan signings, but now IL is taking more control maybe we will get in some Championship player who cannot get regular first team football.

Shame about Newport's game being postponed. All that effort Kitson put in to ensure he had Boxing Day and New Year's Day off. Now he will have to sit at home yet one more match.

I have said before that after signing Mullins, CW was told by IL that there would be no more signings and no more loans. He would have to rely on his youth players if necessary. With Hall not staying there might be some leeway but attendances/revenue don't auger well for that.

this is just the usual bluff and doublebluff between clubs. shrewsbury dont like seeing oxford getting asa on the cheap long-term. at the same time they know he's not part of their first team plans. our chairman is still losing £ every month and is driving a hard bargain. dont get in a panic and yes its certainly not cw to blame.
