Didcot Town failed to make it three wins on the bounce in Calor League Division 1 South & West after falling to a 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Thatcham Town yesterday.

It was never going to be a pretty game in dire conditions of wind and driving rain, but Didcot welcomed back joint-manager Jamie Heapy from nine months on the sidelines with injury as he made his 801st appearance for the club.

Thatcham edged the first half, creating the majority of the chances that came along.

Ex-Didcot player Gareth Thomas headed over from a corner and former Oxford City striker Yashwa Romeo missed another decent opportunity as the home side pressed forward.

Ironically, Didcot should have opened the scoring on 27 minutes. John Mills had three attempts from six yards, the first saved by keeper Rob Durrant, the other two blocked on the line by Matt Bowler.

Thatcham took the lead just before the break when Romeo rose highest and headed home a corner, leaving keeper Alex Williams no chance.

Didcot improved after the break without hitting top gear.

They missed a sitter on 68 minutes when Jack Longford only had to hit the target from eight yards, but thudded his shot against a post.

And Didcot were made to pay as Thatcham wrapped up the points with a carbon copy of their first goal on 81 minutes.

Another corner was swung over and Romeo again was on-hand to nod home his second and wrap up the pionts.
