Banbury United scored twice in the last ten minutes to rescue a dramatic point from a 2-2 draw in their Calor League Premier Division match at home to Burnham on Saturday.

The hosts looked to be heading for their second defeat of the holiday period.

But then a penalty converted by Scott Bridges and a 90th minute equaliser from Marcus Green secured a draw.

Banbury made the worst possible start, going behind after two minutes.

Keeper Dean Snedker did well to save with his feet a Ryan Blake effort.

But from the resultant corner, taken by Josh Webb, an unmarked Ryan Upward headed the ball home from six yards with Scott Bridges standing on the goal line unable to do anything but help the ball into the net.

Banbury were unfortunate not to equalise in the final minute of the first half when Bridges fed the ball through to Kynan Isaac, whose curling shot brought a magnificent save from Burnham keeper Michael Watkins, who tipped the ball around the post for a corner.

Three minutes into the second half, the Puritans were 2-0 down.

From a quick break, the ball was played up to Blake wide on the right. With Banbury short of numbers at the back, his centre found Upward totally unmarked and he calmly slotted the ball home past the advancing Snedker.

Banbury were handed a lifeline in the 81st minute when Aaron Morgan crossed into the Burnham penalty area and Isaac was bundled over.

Watkins was unlucky not to save the resultant spot-kick from Bridges.  The keeper guessed correctly, but the ball had enough pace on it to spin back over the line and into the net.

Banbury pushedforward with more purpoose and equalised in the final minute of normal time.

Isaac chased down and took the ball off a defender on the right bye-line.

He then crossed into the penalty area where Watkins pushed the ball away but only as far as substitute Green, who shot low into the corner of the net from ther edge of the penalty area to the delight of the home fans.
