Sixteen North Oxford AS anglers turned out for their Christmas Match on a coloured and boat-free Oxford Canal at Aristotle Lane.

It proved a close affair, with Roger Brown claiming victory thanks to four good-sized skimmers on bread in the first quarter of a hour for a winning 8lb 2oz.

In second place was Maurice Winstone, who used chopped worm tactics to catch perch for 7.13.0, followed by Jason Bean with 7.9.8 of mainly skimmers.

Northway shop FTB donated a reel as one of the prizes.

Tackley Estates AC were also on the Oxford Canal for their latest match, ten members taking part on the Shipton stretch.

Frank Malone needed only 2.10.0 of skimmers on pole and pinkie to grab top spot, from Stephen Malone with 2.3.8 and Anthony Alder with 1.12.8.

There wasn’t much festive cheer for the eight anglers contesting Dorchester AS’s Christmas Match on the Thames and Thame.

It was a rover, so anglers could choose where they fished, but both rivers were up and coloured, and bites were at a premium.

Eight ounces was enough to clinch the silverware for Dave Head, followed by Mick Marriott with 0.7.3 and Ted Budd with 0.2.0.

Only a week ago, Marriott had caught 83lb of bream to win the club’s previous match!

Eight anglers turned out to fish Masons AC’s Christmas Match on a windy Oxford Canal at the Rock of Gibraltar.

Phil Light stuck to one method of fishing groundbait feeder and maggot to the boats in the marina and was rewarded with four decent bream to 4.0.0 and two large perch for a winning 15.5.0.

In second place, fishing the pole and alternating between bread and chopped worm, was Bob Yeomans with a bag of skimmers, roach and perch for 10.0.0.

Jason Smith was third with mainly perch on worm or maggot for 5.9.0.
